What Exterior Detailing Involves

Exterior detailing is a comprehensive treatment of every surface on the outside of your vehicle. Unlike a standard car wash, exterior detailing uses safe, professional methods to clean, decontaminate, and protect the paintwork, glass, trim, wheels, and tyres.

The process begins with a thorough pre-wash and contact wash using pH-neutral products and safe techniques that minimise the risk of introducing swirl marks or scratches. Decontamination removes bonded contaminants — iron fallout, tar, and industrial deposits — that a standard wash cannot address.

The treatment concludes with a finishing product — whether a wax, sealant, or quick detailer — to protect the surface and enhance the gloss.

The Exterior Detailing Process

Pre-Wash & Rinse A thorough pre-wash to remove loose dirt and debris before any contact with the paintwork.
Snow Foam Treatment pH-neutral snow foam applied to dwell and loosen bonded dirt, reducing contact wash risk.
Safe Contact Wash Two-bucket method with premium wash mitts to clean all painted surfaces safely.
Iron Fallout Removal Chemical decontamination to dissolve and remove iron particles bonded to the paintwork.
Tar & Adhesive Removal Solvent-based treatment to remove tar spots, adhesive residue, and road film.
Clay Bar Treatment Mechanical decontamination to remove remaining bonded surface contaminants.
Wheel & Tyre Cleaning Dedicated wheel cleaner and brushes to clean alloys, wheel arches, and tyre sidewalls.
Glass Cleaning All glass surfaces cleaned inside and out for clarity and streak-free visibility.
Trim Dressing Exterior plastic and rubber trim dressed and protected to restore and maintain appearance.
Paint Protection Finish A finishing wax, sealant, or quick detailer applied to protect and enhance the paintwork.

Protection & Finishing

A finishing product is applied to protect the paintwork and enhance gloss, leaving the vehicle ready for collection.

Common Questions

The duration depends on the size of the vehicle and its condition. A standard exterior detail typically takes between 3–6 hours. We'll give you a more accurate time estimate after assessing your vehicle.
No. Exterior detailing is a significantly more thorough process. It involves safe washing methods, chemical and mechanical decontamination, and finishing protection — not just a rinse and wipe.
Standard exterior detailing does not include paint correction. If you have scratches or swirl marks you'd like addressed, we'd recommend combining exterior detailing with a paint enhancement service.
This depends on how the vehicle is used and stored. As a general guide, a full exterior detail every 3–6 months helps maintain the paintwork and makes each subsequent treatment easier.
We use professional-grade, pH-neutral products selected for their performance and safety on high-end paintwork. All products are tested and appropriate for the surfaces being treated.
